Effective June 2006 SCC has begun the process of using Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) for its continuing accreditation efforts. This continuous quality improvement approach will ensure that SCC maintains and improves its plans and goals in alignment with the expectations of the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.
Starting March 2007 SCC contracted with Dr. Stan Jensen and his wife, Teresa, of Leadership Enterprises, Inc. to train teams in Continuous Process Improvement. Fifty-nine employees were trained in Spring/Summer 2007. From September through November 2008, Mrs. Teresa Jensen of Leadership Enterprises provided a second round of guided facilitation training involving six teams and 62 participants (i.e., 58 employees, 2 students and 2 alumni). To ensure continuation, four internal CPI trainer/facilitators were trained and practiced their skills with the six teams.
Prior to the end of FY09, the CPI Training Project Team, established in 2007, will develop a recommendation to the AQIP Accreditation Steering Committee for infusing CPI at SCC. The recommendation will include a calendar for conducting More Same Less (a means to periodically extract input on potential CPI (and Action) Projects), a method for orienting new employees, and opportunities for training/retraining existing employees. The reintroduction of instructional departments in 2009 will support these continuous process improvement efforts.
Southeastern Community College is accredited by the Commission on Institutions on Higher Learning Colleges and Schools. The HLC's AQIP (Academic Quality Improvement Program) approved SCC's application in May 2006. The college's AQIP Systems Portfolio will be appraised for the first time in June 2009.
Iowa Department of Education Accreditation
In April of 2010, a team comprised of six members from the Iowa DE and other Iowa community colleges came onsite for a 2.5 day comprehensive accreditation visit. Their final report recommends SCC’s continued accreditation with no corrective action required.
Several programs are accredited for licensure or certification by entities or agencies other than the Higher Learning Commission. They include:
Approval by the regional accreditation agency, program accreditations, and memberships in various associations provides assurance to SCC students that their credits will generally be accepted by other colleges and universities and that SCC adheres to high standards and quality programs.
